I've tried to put on a brave front for my dear friends Barb & Dean (Dean's parents) but... when these summer holidays come, I miss Dean terribly.
Every year since he was 22, we used to corral our friends young & old (which Dean constantly reminded us of our "Old Age", cause he knew how to bust balls). Dean would be in charge of the young guys and me the old. So, the week prior to these holidays, it would be a plethora of phone calls, emails and texts figuring out where we were going to play, who to invite and what we would do afterwards (except Dixon who would have to leave and walk Dunkin or vice-versa) It would be the track or a restaurant with well endowed, not too bright servers or The Casino.
What Dean was trying to do was expose his friends to what he had growing up. His Dad would bring him everywhere: poker games, Super Bowl parties, etc. We did this for years: Galina, Quad Cities... The "Young Guys" would love our stories of experiences & mistakes, all the while pounding the shit out of us on the golf course. Lets all keep swingin' till we meet again.

I remember the day Dean was born, I had to work that morning and by the time I got to the hospital Barb was already in pre-op and I barged in there and Barb said what are you doing here I told her I was just checking if she was alright. I went up to the delivery waiting room where Dino and Grandpa Frank were. The three of us were pacing like The Three Stooges, then I heard “Mr. Katsaros, here is your son.” ( which I made money on because everyone thought it was a girl ). We all ran to the door ( like the Stooges ) trying to see and finally let Dino go first, that night Phil Lombardo came over to Dino's house with a bottle of Courdon Blue which we finished.
I remember going to watch him play sports especially Sunday morning soccer games with his friends. Then all grown up we went to Las Vegas for his twenty-first birthday and what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas !!! I enjoyed watching him grow up into the great young man he was. Taking care of his Uncle when he worked for the Chicago Bulls to see some games. Then graduating from Lewis University and going back for his master's –I was so proud. Then for his thirtieth birthday we went back to Vegas this time with his friends who all turned out to be great young men and were a tight group too. Once again what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas. !!!
Finally going to sporting events or just getting together on Sundays to watch football with " Triple D ". I miss him every day but smile when I look at his picture on my wall. He was like the son I never had and am glad I was part of his life !!!
